In light of the growing humanitarian challenges imposed by armed conflicts, Al-Shifaa Association for Medical and Humanitarian Services participated in a specialized training workshop organized by the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) in Ain al-Hilweh Camp. The workshop aimed to strengthen the capacities of first responders in the proper management of the dead during conflicts and disasters.

The workshop targeted a group of paramedics and emergency responders from various local organizations and health institutions. The training focused on the fundamental principles of handling human remains in emergency contexts, with a strong emphasis on preserving human dignity and facilitating future identification processes.

Such training holds particular importance given the complex field realities within Palestinian camps and conflict-affected areas, where emergency teams are often on the front lines of response efforts. The workshop addressed both the technical and ethical aspects of managing the dead, in addition to documentation procedures and the preservation of evidence that may be critical for identification and for supporting the families of victims.

Participants highlighted the importance of preparedness in such circumstances, considering it a cornerstone for safeguarding human dignity in the most difficult moments. This was reflected in the workshop’s slogan by the ICRC: “Preparedness today means preserving dignity in the future.”

Al-Shifaa participation comes as part of its ongoing commitment to enhancing the capacities of its medical and humanitarian teams, and to strengthening its emergency response in line with international standards and humanitarian and ethical principles.
