Al-Shifaa Participates in Red Cross Workshop on Dead Body Management During Armed Conflicts

Amid growing humanitarian challenges posed by armed conflicts, Al-Shifaa Association for Medical and Humanitarian Services took part in a specialized training workshop organized by the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) in Ain al-Hilweh Camp. The workshop aimed to strengthen the capacity of paramedics in properly managing dead bodies during conflicts and disasters.

The training targeted first responders and ambulance teams from various local health organizations, focusing on the fundamental principles of handling dead bodies in emergency contexts. It emphasized the importance of preserving human dignity and facilitating future identification processes.

This type of training is especially crucial given the complex field realities in Palestinian camps and conflict-affected areas, where emergency teams are often on the front lines. The workshop covered technical and ethical aspects of body management, including documentation procedures and evidence preservation, which are essential for future identification and for supporting the families of the deceased.

Participants highlighted the importance of preparedness in such contexts, considering it a cornerstone of preserving dignity during the most difficult moments—an idea reflected in the ICRC’s guiding message for the workshop:
“Preparedness today means dignity tomorrow.”

Al-Shifaa’s participation aligns with its ongoing commitment to building the capacity of its medical and humanitarian teams, and to enhancing its emergency response in accordance with international standards and humanitarian ethics.
